This isn't moment - Lego Storage

This picture was taken at a coffee shop in London

Lego has designed to encourage people to be creative. This cafe owner has just demonstrate us how useful could Lego be in our everyday life. If you run out of storage box next time. Why don't you take out your Lego from the box and build one for yourself?

"This isn't" moment - Hawker's Display

This picture was taken at the harbor in Barcelona.

Often hawkers are the most creative people you can find on the street. They are always working under constraint condition. They have limited space, time and mobility. Here is a great example of a hawker combining an umbrella and a tripod together to make a display stand for his jewelry. It is collapsible, portable and it presents his jewelry well.

This isn't the conclusion

A full stop indicants that this is the end of the line. Yet it continuously leads you to the next line and to the next full stop. A story may end with a full stop. Yet it leads you to arguments, discussions and imagination. A conclusion does not necessary mean it is the end of a story. It often leads you to arguments, discussion and imagination.

Imagination is like a full stop. It stops for a little while and suddenly it leads you to the next.

Our project begins from a full stop where "This is" becomes "This isn't". Just like when 2 sticks meet together to become a pair of chopstick. A utensil that is used for eating.
A simple object like a Chopstick is used for eating. When you separate them these 2 sticks have been used as hair decoration and weaponry to catch a fly in a Kung Fu movie. These other purposes were not the original design attempt. It has been re-purposed from one idea to another.

This is and This isn’t is a collaboration project of how we experiment the use of objects that are meant for its main purpose and secondary purpose. The ideas are based on what we’ve found in everyday routines. We will capture all these creative “This isn’t” moment and further develop theses ideas from a design approach.

We hope “This is”, gives an example and explanation of how and what the objects purpose was meant to be, while “This isn’t” is an experimentation of modifying the object for other purpose.
This will take place through documentation and experimentation.

Therefore, we have created a blog platform and invite you to join us to collect more “This isn’t” ideas. We are also inviting designers to further develop “This isn’t” ideas with us.
